Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus replacement

$

Hi all

I've been merrily running Squeeze Server / LMS for a number of years on my ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus. A few quirks but it has worked out pretty much OK. I'm just about to replace the X-RAID2 2x1TB drives for 2x2TB drives due to a drive failure (plus I'm at 85% capacity). Currently running on just one disk.

I'd like to buy a new unit for use elsewhere with the same capacity. The closest current model from Netgear appears to be: RN31200 http://www.netgear.com/business/prod...#tab-techspecs but I can't see if that fully supports LMS.

So, my question is what would be the best NAS to go for that fully supports LMS and has similar capacity and specs in terms of RAID and minimum 2TB storage? Running LMS at a decent speed is also important.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Relase year vs original year in LMS 7.9 TDOR TDRC

I have been using beets to clean up my mp3 tags and prepare them for LMS. I have read on the wiki that LMS will use TDOR (original date) before TDRC(release date) for the album date. This is something that changed around 7.4??? In my case I can see that LMS is using the TDRC date, rather than the intended TDOR, I can see that the file HAS the correct date for TDOR when browsing the tags in the web ui.

This is making albums show up in the wrong era(eg 2005 for Nebraska rather than 1982). I have used eyeD3 to remove the id3v1 tags.

Thanks
Jay

LMS 7.9 vs LMS 10

> What should I choose?

Forget about 10. That's the UE Music Library, supposed to feed music to
your UE SmartRadio - which you don't have.

7.9 has a bunch of nice improvements over previous versions. But it's
still under development. Which means: there can be daily updates (which
you don't have to install), and it happens that I introduce bugs every
now and then. Other than that I'd say it's the best LMS ever - and most
of the time as stable as the other versions.

If you want something more stable, I'd suggest you go with 7.8.1.

Each song is shown as a separate album

I've been buying music from HD Tracks for a number of years. When I first started buying from them the files were only available as FLAC files and instead of converting them to something I could import into iTunes I just put them in a separate hi-rez folder. After navigating to them manually the first time with my Duet or IPeng controllers they would then show up in New Music as well as Albums & Artists. This system has worked well up until a couple of days ago. Along with several other albums I purchased Nina Simone, In Concert. After following my usual procedure and enjoying the music I discovered that each song shows up in New Music as a separate album. That is, I have seven Nina Simone thumbnails, each with a different song. That's also true in the Album view. Under Artist view there is only one listing. I just checked and I also have one thumbnail for each song in my web browser on my Mac. I've tried "Clear library and rescan everything" but that doesn't have any effect. I can still play the album by going to Artists but that's not the way I normally navigate. Can someone give me a suggestion on how to correct this? Thanks.

Harassing advertisments

Hi Michael,

is there something buildin LMS, which provides localized information to tunein or radionomy.
When I listen to Indie Radio or électrique radio the stream is interrupted by advertisement in German at least every hour and when I switch to another stream or local music and return in a few minutes the advertisement has paused and I'm forced to listen to it until the end.
It even continous when I've restarted the server.
For the time being I've realized this behaviour only for these two streams. When I listen to them at work, it does not happen. I've have LMS installed that is only used for streaming. mysqueezebox is not in use.

I'd be glad to get rid of these advertisments.

@all: As far as I know there is no chance to receive these streams w/o using tunein or radionomy.

Cheers wgk

Problem with Rescan Media Library

Greetings,
my first post here, thanks in advance for your help :)

I have been a happy user of LMS with a Duet and a Touch for over 4 years... that is until last week I tried to upgrade from LMS 7.8.0 to 7.8.1

I started having all sorts of permission issues.. which I think I have fixed now however the problem is in the Web GUI, Basic Settings >> Rescan, when I select Clear Library and rescan everything and hit on Apply it goes back to Look for new and changed media files.
It just won't let me clear and rescan everything, consequently it has only found ca 11000 tracks instead of nearly 30000 that I have stored on the NAS.

I tried clearing the cache, uninstalling everything, I installed v 7.2.2, now back to 7.8.0 - same problem.

I have LMS installed on a QNAP NAS, not very fluent with Linux, but I am using WinSCP to clear the cache and check the file structure and permissions.

What am I missing?
Thanks!

LMS 7.9 on RPI 1 fails with Illegal Instruction(Squeezeplug 7.50 upgraded to Jessie)

I decided to try an upgrade of Squeezeplug 7.50 to Debian Jessie.
I installed it fresh on a new SD card, did the upgrade and finally installed LMS 7.9 via the Squeezeplug setup tool.
However, LMS just keeps crashing.
Starting squeezeboxserver directly on the command line showed "Illegal Instruction", suggesting some mixup between RPI-specific ARM packages an generic ones that would run fine on a Pi2, but not on the old one.

Here is the end of the strace output (it's way too long to be posted in full):

LMS don't start on Raspbian (DietpPi-Distribution)

$

Hi,

I have major trouble getting LMS to work on my Raspberry Pi 2 running the server-optimized distribution "DietPi" (http://dietpi.net/)

After a clean first install, it's working, but after a reboot I cannot get it to start anymore. LMS is taking 100% processor time, restarting every 5 seconds.

When I manually start LMS with:

squeezeboxserver --prefsdir /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs --logdir /var/log/squeezeboxserver/ --cachedir /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache --server --user squeezeboxserver

it gives a "Can't call method "log" on an undefined value at /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/Log/Log4perl/Appender.pm line 189."

When started with user root:

squeezeboxserver --prefsdir /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs --logdir /var/log/squeezeboxserver/ --cachedir /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache --server --user root

then it works! But that's surely not the correct behaviour.

Even when I edit "/etc/default/logitechmediaserver" and use "slimuser=root" it's not working.

It works well on standard Raspbian, just not with DietPi. But since it's such a slick server-optimized distribution, I would like to keep it.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Squeezebox touch can't play from Netgear NAS

Hi folks,
I'm hoping for some help. I have a squeezebox touch which was working fine with LMS on a Mac, but I want to move to a NAS so it's always on.

I followed the relevant instructions and installed LMS 7.8 on a Netgear ReadyNAS 102. All seemed well, the LMS starts and I can browse menus etc. If I go into 'my music' I can see all of my tracks.

But if I try and play one, the artwork, title etc come up on screen, but the track doesn't play, progress bar doesn't move. I've looked in the LMS log but can't see any issues.

Any advice on how to fix this? I've restarted LMS and reset the touch to factory settings but to no avail.

The touch can clearly see LMS and vice versa. If I choose a track from LMS it appears to play in LMS, but nothing actually happens on the touch.

Squeezebox cannot play my digital music library

For years, my 4 Logitech Radios and my Squeezebox Boom all behaved perfectly well. About a month ago, with no changes ot either the radios, the squeezebox of the PC with LMS on it 'refused' to find my music library on the PC. INternet radio played fine though. I tried reinstalling LMS resetting all the devices and starting again - no luck.

In sheer desperation, I installed UE upgraded on the radios and reinstalled LMS on a DIFERENT PC and they are working perfectly.

My problem is with the remaining Squeezebox. I know it doesn't work with UE Radio server thingy, so I set up a second PC running LMS and for a while it all worked. When I switched on the PC this morning and switched on the Boom, it said it 'couldn't connect, let's try again'. I did...but it mde no difference. Once again, Internet Radio is OK, but it can't seem to see my digital music library. I've disabled my AV and Firewall and that hasn't made a difference. I'm not an expert but I could see that the Squeezebox and LMS just 'weren't talking'. I've reset the Squeezebox (again!), and set everything up from scratch, but they still won't talk. I've even tried enetering the server address of 192.168.1.64 on the Squeezebox manaualy.. and that didn't make a difference.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here before I run out of patience... and hair :)

Thanks

Steve

LMS 7.9: bug with m3u and cue files

$

Hi!
I think there is a bug in LMS 7.9 (using Daphile that is LMS based).

First: to add some music to my playlist I use always folder browsing (I don't need the database).

I have several albums stored in flac files (one file each song). All song for an album are in a folder.
If in the same folder with the flac files there is also a .cue file and/or a .m3u file, when I try to play all the tracks in the album adding all songs to the playlist, the first track is always skipped: it seems that LMS can not recognize this song as a music file (but a generic binary file).
Deleting cue/m3u files not always helps, and not rescanning library for new or changed files.
But if I copy all flac files in RAM Drive (or in a new folder), the first track is played normally.

There is also a bug cue related.
In a folder I have two cds ripped in a single flac file + cue sheet, as follow:

album1.cue
album1.flac
album2.cue
album2.flac

I can add the first album to the playlist clicking on the album1.cue, but also here the first track is skipped.
Sometimes the track in the album is added two times in the playlist.

I hope that this can be solved.
Thanks for attention!

Unable to play Music Library without Stutters, Halts, Blips, Sync Issues, Etc...

Hi All,

I'm curious if anyone can tell me why my home system which I feel consists of "very" capable and robust hardware fails so miserably at playing my home music library. My library consists of 40,000 WMA Lossless tracks and 3000 or so albums. It is rare for me to be able to play more than 5 or 6 songs without a stutter, halt, blip, erratic loss of sync, or complete stop. Sometimes it will get on a roll and play well but I am unable to change tracks, skip a track, or repeat a track without causing me great consternation and playback failure. I really only use Pandora, which works wonderful, the internet radio, which works great, a few podcasts, which work great, and my music collection. This problem is not new.
I always use the latest version of 7.9 and my hardware consists of the following. This happens whether I have everything turned on or I am running just a few of the radios. (Most of the time I just run 7, 8, or 9)

A Dedicated Dell Inspiron 3000 Series Model 3847 running Windows 10 Pro (and absolutely nothing else), a 4th Gen 4th Intel i7-4790 Processor, 16 GB of ram, and 2 4 Terabytes hard drives (1 is a backup)
A Netgear R7000 with the 2.4 GHz band dedicated to the home music system.
14 Squeezebox Radios
(7) standalones (2 of them setup as a stereo pair)
(4) of them connected to 4 Sunfire DS-8 Self Powered Subwoofers
(3) of them connected to 3 pairs of JBL LSR305 Powered Studio Monitors sitting on Maple DR Pro Studio Monitor Stands
In the Living Room - A 10.5 Inch Samsung Nexus Galaxy TAB-S running "Squeeze Ctrl"
In the Bedroom - A Nexus 7 2013 on a dock running "Squeeze Ctrl"

My question is:
Is my WMA lossless collection the root of all my problems? The playability of my music collection has rendered an otherwise brilliant system into an exercise in frustration. Is it possible to introduce native support for WMA Lossless into the firmware of the Squeezebox Radio so it doesn't have to convert on the fly? Or is that even my problem? Any or all comments are welcome and Michael, I would sure appreciate it if you would chime in. I am questioning a bit, my decision to invest so heavily in my system right now and wondering if Sonos might have been better despite its failings.

Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions. (I have not given up yet.)

LMS 7.9 and Deezer Elite via ickStream

Hi,

I am using LMS 7.9/ickStream with Squeezelite and a Touch to play play Deezer Elite with excellent results. The sound is amazingly good.

There are two minor bugs that I have noticed:

1. The "Flow" feature is limited to 25 tracks.

2. The file type shows "0" in LMS itself but does correctly indicate "FLAC" on the Touch and also on the Logitech wireless controller that I use.

Neither are a big deal but I posted because some people use "Flow" heavily and the 25 limit could be annoying for them.

LMS 7.9 is very stable for me and sounds great.

Thanks for all your efforts.

I'm pretty sure on LMS 7.7.x (running on a Windows 7 box) I was able to set the time for a daily media scan of 'new and changed media files.' Now I am running 7.8.1 - 1441189259 and I can't find where that setting is. Or was. Can someone tell me how to get a media scan at 6:45 pm every day?

Thanks.

Where did my apps go?

I've got a strange problem: I'm running LMS 7.80 on a ReadyNAS Ultra4Plus. It serves local files just fine to my four Squeezebox devices (2 Booms, Transporter and Duo).

I've enabled the Triode Spotify plugin (2.3.9) with a valid premium account onto the server. From the server's web interface, however, it's invisible. Under "My Apps" there's only the App Gallery. From the Booms and the Duo, it's the same: no Spotify app is present or any other, for that matter. Likewise on iPeng. Yet when I use the Transporter, it's there, and it works! What's more, on any player, if I drill down on any album or track (using the web interface) to get the "On Spotify" option, it searches Spotify and delivers the track, and even allows me to add that track to my Favorites.

Anyone got any ideas? Should I downgrade to an earlier version?

Favourites.opml: Some Tracks with Network refs, others with drive location refs.....?

Ongoing to a previous post of mines where i described that having went over to Win10, a lot of my Playlists were now empty as any track with a network reference (rather than a physical drive location) wasn't being picked up by LMS.

Spent a chunk of today working in Notepad to fix file references in all my playlists, now I'm turning to Favourites.opml...
Again, any Network location references are ignored...

Two sample files to illustrate what I mean?
First one working, second one not.

IN LMS:

URL: file:///M:/Music/P-R/Porcupine%20Tree/Fear%20of%20a%20Blank%20Planet/01%20-%20Fear%20of%20a%20Blank%20Planet.flac *works*

Thinking I would just edit the *.opml file lke before I opened it up in notepad?
For the same files..

<outline URL="file:///M:/Music/P-R/Porcupine%20Tree/Fear%20of%20a%20Blank%20Planet/01%20-%20Fear%20of%20a%20Blank%20Planet.flac" icon="music/181864/cover.png" text="Fear of a Blank Planet" type="audio" />*works*

NON WORKING FILE
<outline URL="file:///M:/Music/J-L/Loreena%20McKennitt/The%20Book%20of%20Secrets%201997/01.%20Prologue%20-%20Loreena%20McKennitt.flac" icon="html/images/cover.png" text="Prologue" type="audio" /> *doesn't*
For any track that doesnt work, there is no network reference in the *.opml file!!

How can I repair my Favourites file without manually deleting and readding tracks to favourites via the player interface?

Thanks. :)

Hi

I've got LMS 7.9 install on my windows 8.1 and i select my NAS folder to search for music (i mount this folder on a disc, so for example X:/Music is my path to my NAS folder).

When scan is done, i've got this kind of music on my library :

file:///Program%20Files%20(x86)/Steam/tenfoot/resource/sounds/ambient/amb_bigfoot_backing_part_01_04.mp3

file:///Windows/WinSxS/amd64_microsoft-windows-shell-sounds_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16384_none_07d0dc 3d89809d9b/Windows%20Critical%20Stop.wav

file:///Program%20Files%20(x86)/SqueezePlay/lua/applets/SetupSoundEffects/sounds/select.wav

etc...

Why my LMS add music outside folder i choose ?

Thank
