What can I do without a LMS server?

$

I'm thinking of taking Squeezebox Boom down to a holiday house - where I don't have a system running LMS, but wondering what I'd actually be able to do.

I do have Internet access via a Broadband Hotspot, but no PC systems running LMS.

At home all my music and LMS is running on a Synology NAS box.

MySqueezebox connection seems restricted to Internet based music - not sure if Spotty for Spotify would work though as it relies on LMS.

Apart from firing up a Raspberry Pi to run LMS on with an external USB of music, any other ideas ?

There's no way to do a remote VPN Internet connection back to a home LMS? Probably too slow network anyway.

error message attempting to stream flac file

Hi. I run LMS on an Ubuntu 18.04 media server. It works fine when I stream to my Squeezebox.

Sometimes I want to stream to a desktop/laptop using VLC. Playing MP3 files is never a problem.

Playing flac files never works.

I've posted at the VLC forum; but wanted to post here as well the result from the LMS server log file when attempting to stream to a remote VLC player. It goes like this:

Code:

[19-07-13 12:02:31.9066] Slim::Player::Song::open (410) Error: Couldn't create command line for flc playback for [file:///mnt/MUSIC1.2/CDsAdded2019/CDsAddedJuly2019/David%20Crosby%20-%20Croz/11.%20Find%20A%20Heart%20-%20David%20Crosby%20-%20Croz.flac]

... again and again and again

The log/error messages from VLC are here: https://pastebin.com/GyyDwgZn

I tried this today on a Fedora 30 64-bit box running VLC 3.0.7.1 Vetinari trying to stream music from an Ubuntu media server 18.04 running Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.2 - 1556111457.

It doesn't matter if I upgrade the LMS; this problem has been ongoing for more than a year.

I've asked the VLC people repeatedly and I mean REPEATEDLY if it's even possible to stream more than one file type (mp3 vs flac vs ogg etc) because, as far as I know, it's necessary to add the type of file you want to stream to the request entered into the VLC network streaming section.

So, something like, http://192.168.1.1:9000/stream.mp3

or

http://192.168.1.1:9000/stream.ogg

I asked if there is a *universal* command/string I could put here (ending in say stream.* or something) but ...

I can't get them to answer this simple question.

Because, really, I don't know if what I want to do is possible. And, if not, I'd really rather not waste everyone's time.

Thanks. Sorry for the mini-rant.

Hi there all, as the title says, I regularly listen to BBC streamed podcasts, trouble is it will just stop at random, maybe after 50mins or only 7mins. Pressing play again the stream starts from the beginning again, and I must jump through to roughly where it stopped.

Play Next for Advanced Search results?

The title summarizes my question very well. When I do an Advanced Search, the results do not offer the Play Next option, although this option is available in the results of a regular search. Is this an inherent limitation, or is there something I can change in Settings that would make this option available?

Disappearing/Re-appearing LMS

Yesterday I began having issues with my LMS that has been stable for years. I think it is probably more of a network/computer problem than a LMS issue, but I have no idea where to resume trouble-shooting so I am asking for suggestions. LMS is installed on a Windows 10 PC. All connections except my Boom are ethernet. PC has been re-booted repeatedly; Asus router rebooted a couple of times; cable modem rebooted once. Current nightly LMS was uninstalled/re-installed.

First sign of trouble: yesterday WebUI (Opera browser) became unresponsive. Eventually reloaded a garbled page of text with hyperlinks to some SB commands. Chrome & Firefox yielded the same. Edge, of all things, rendered a usable WebGUI. Shortly afterwards, the player quit playing and all browsers refused to load the GUI.

This morning I fired up players using OrangeSqueeze on my android phone. All browsers, except Edge, on my GUI yielded the text with hyperlinks. Edge was usable. The Boom and my piCorePlayer each played ok for a while, then had periodic cutouts where they stopped and re-started playing. I installed Squeezelite-X on my PC and was able to use it rather than a browser. Eventually the music stopped and the browsers and Squeezelite-X either could not connect to LMS or could not locate any players (of my five). Then without warning SL-X and Edge worked again and the music resumed. Rinse and repeat since then.

I did have a BSOD on my PC a couple of weeks ago. OS & LMS are on a SSD. Windows diagnostics indicates no issues with the drive, so I have been holding off on a recovery option. I am afraid this where my issue may lie though. No other issues on the PC or the network that I am aware of.

I am a bit of a novice with logs, but I have not seen too much in what I have looked at for the times that the problems occurred. The entries below near the time of my most recent outage/re-start do look out of place to me. Do they point me in any particular direction? If I can provide any further info, please let me know (along with a hint as to the best way to post it).

EDIT: After posting this, I fiddled around and got the WebGUIs to display properly with Material skin only. And after not selecting MI&A plug-in during playback as I had been doing previously, I have had no further issues. But it is early still and that may be purely coincidental.

My LMS is running/not running

I decided to run the update on LMS earlier this afternoon and now I'm in trouble. The update was LogitechMediaServer-7.9.2-1562753347

The installation failed when the system couldn't overwrite squeezeboxcp.exe. I manually renamed the old file and retried. It ran the install until the same thing happened with SqueezeSvr.exe.

The update completed. The CP's satus tab says my server is running. The diagnostics tab says all is fine. The information tab says "No status information available. Please note that Logitech Media Server has to be up and running in order to display its status information."

Note: the CP is now NOT prompting me for a username and password when it should be.

I can't reach my server at all. I'll try to attach the server log for today.

I'm at a loss. I've never seen this before.

Any ideas?

Hi there fellow travelers,

Ickstream has stopped supporting Tidal plugin for LMS as of last month.

Is there any other 3rd party software that I could use to run Tidal off my LMS (I have v 2.4 running on a Vortexbox server box with a CD ripper)

Cheers

LMS web interface keeps becoming unresponsive on Debian 10

I've always run the current version of Debian without issues for the last 10 years or so, but since upgrading my LMS server to Debian 10 (Intel x64) I've noticed that the web interface keeps becoming unresponsive for periods of about 10 seconds, and then it catches up. In some cases the music will also stop during the periods it's not responding.

Running LMS 7.9.2-1562753347 on minimal Debian 10 Intel x64.

Any thoughts?

LMS library empty after rescan

$

Hello,

I have QLogitechMediaServer 2.04.00 with LMS 7.9.2 running on a QNAP NAS for quite some time now. It ran very stable through all that time.

From time to time I add new albums or change some metadata and do a rescan. After the latest rescan (actually "clear library and rescan everything") my LMS library is completely empty. I tried several rescans, I restartet both LMS and NAS and even I checked the file path (which remained untouched). I also checked the permissions and changed from "read only" to "read and write" for the user "squeezeboxserver" on the NAS (even though "write" doesn't seem to make sense to me, does it?). Nothing helped, LMS library still shows not a single music file.

Any idea what might be wrong?

Best regards
Stefan

New (old) member, track sorting question

I had (and still have but don't use) one of the original Slimplayers, best thing ever, until L bought them and killed it. Overjoyed to find that it's now an OS project, I have LMS and Slimplayer running on a dedicated rPi. One comment, search capability in this group is awful, hence my first post - just how do I get music to play in track order? Just worked on the original Slim, I see nothing in this version to control that. Sorry if I missed it.
PS - the verification nonsense is even worse. No other group I belong to does this, and as usual, the Captcha images are just indecipherable. If I'm registered and logged in, forget this stupidity.

LMS 7.9.2 service shutting down

Hi,
my usually extremely stable LMS installation recently (3-4 weeks ago) started having problems. After a couple of days of successfully running, it's shutting down and cannot be successfully restarted (tried console as well as "computer management"/services. Only restarting the computer itself remedies it for a while.
The latest 2-3 updates of lms do not make a difference.
Computer is a Windows Server 2012 R2

Cheap: A Raspberry Pi with piCorePlayer.

Less cheap: a NAS (Synology, QNAP have decent support for new LMS packages).

And that's from a failed scan? The file indeed simply ends without
neither success nor failure message.

The last file logged is

Is that one that got updated?

Announce: Storm, a headless player for the Slim Protocol

Announcing "storm" a simple media player for the Slim Protocol.

I know we have the excellent Squeezelite from Adrian Smith and Ralph Irving but having taught myself the Rust programming language I was casting about for a non-trivial project to test my knowledge and decided to write a simple media player based on the Slim protocol. I now have a viable player or, at least, I think I have.

If there is anybody out there who would like to give it a spin I would be very grateful for any feedback. If you do try it please be aware of the following:

  • Storm is written in Rust
I'll be happy to help anyone install the Rust tool chain, it's very easy to get going in Rust and even easier to remove from your system.
  • Storm uses the gstreamer1 API to decode and play the media stream
You'll need to install gstreamer1 dev packages along with ffmpeg and whatever ffmpeg decoders you will need.
  • Storm has a couple of issues which I know about
    1. Playback stutters for a few seconds when you skip forwards or backwards in a track. This is probably something to do with how I am handling gstreamer.
    2. I can synchronise storm to my Squeezebox Touch but not the other way around. I suspect there's something about the Slim protocol I don't know.
  • I'm currently working out how to do a cross-compile of Storm
  • Storm is available at my github account but as this is my first port I'm not allowed to make any links. I'll follow up with a link.
